SUPCON Helps DoE Malaysia to Build the First Environmental Industrial Town in Pasir Gudang

Pasir Gudang has become the first industrial town in Malaysia to be equipped with a real-time air monitoring system that can send out alerts in case of air pollution. It is based on two units of mobile gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS) and two units of mobile gas chromatography-flame ionization detector (GCFID), along with six units of portable Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR).

The hardware of this integrated platform applies SUPCON GCU311 and GW315, which adopt wireless data acquisition technology. And the software SUPCON PIMS system realizes unified deployment and monitoring of local environmental data. By the end of 2019, SUPCON had completed the implementation of this project. A total of 25 photoionization detectors (PIDs), which could detect total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs) in the environment, had been installed throughout the district. The system had all been operating since January, 2020.

“The air monitoring system also directly gives out alerts to DoE on the air quality of the area and DoE officers would then go to the location indicated in the system for further checks…” Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin said.
