SUPCON Automation Solution for Self-elevating Platform Passes Phase I Acceptance Test

Nov 15, SUPCON automation solution for self-elevating platform passed Phase I acceptance test. The project was selected as a MIIT (the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) R&D project last year.

To advance the development of self-elevating platform in China, SUPCON teamed up with ZPMC, a leading heavy-duty equipment manufacturer in China, CCS (China Classification Society) and Shanghai Maritime University to carry out the full scale trial of the platform. SUPCON took the automation solution part and adopted its self-developed SIS TCS-900, PLC GCS-G5, and SCADA software VxSCADA in the project. In addition, TCS-900 was certified by CCS during this project and proved to be reliable for the offshore application.

As the most popular mobile offshore drilling unit, self-elevating platform, or jack-up rig can provide stable work platforms which effectively eliminate construction downtime due to wind and waves, the procedure of oil exploitation could carry on without any interruptions. Automation control is critical part of the success of the platform since its mechanical structure is complicated, there are more control nodes, and system reliability is more demanding, especially in the harsh offshore environment.
