SUPCON DCS Applied in Gen-IV Nuclear Reactor System

Dec 21, 2015 - SUPCON successfully won the contract of instrument control system design verification platform for Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor (SFR) of China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE). The project is now at engineering design and implementation stage.

The project contains 3 sub-projects: digital protection system verification platform (using SUPCON TCS-900 SIS system), digital monitoring system verification platform (using SUPCON WebFieldTM ECS-700 system, with totally 40,000 I/O points for each single domain), and main process system coordination control verification platform.

The fast reactor system is the main choice of Gen-IV nuclear reactor system, it represents the development direction of Gen-IV nuclear energy systems. Its fast neutron spectrum enhances the utilization of uranium resources (utilization ratio up to 60% from 1% of PWR) through breeding and fuel cycle. With closed fuel cycle, it can transmute the long life fission products and consume transuranics, thus reducing the radiotoxicity and heat load which facilitates waste disposal and geologic isolation. To sum up, the fast reactor system is one of the most sustainable & green energy utilization methods in the world.
